Our optometrists take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs, our exceptional, friendly staff is our greatest asset. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing, and treating potential vision problems.

Our receptionists will do their best to accommodate your busy schedule by finding appointments that suit your needs. We will help you understand your insurance coverage and, if financial arrangements are necessary, we will be glad to help you develop a plan to make your vision care treatment possible.

Optometrist

Dr. William Gordon

Dr. William Gordon, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, has been serving the Monroe area for more than 30 years. He attended Southern College of Optometry and is currently the past President of the Optometry Association of Louisiana. While Dr. Gordon sees and treats all patients, his specialties are in the areas of the treatment and management of ocular disease, dry eye, and contact lenses.

Dr. Gordon grew up in Albany, Georgia and along the East Coast as his father was in the Marine Corps which demanded some moving around. As a young boy, Dr. Gordon developed vision problems himself and this led to a greater interest in eye health and vision. He also discovered that, as a private pilot since 1986, Dr. Gordon enjoys flying when not practicing optometry. He has been married to Charvie Byford Gordon since 1993 and welcomes you to his practice.

This great occupation meant helping others who had eye and vision problems and that made it all worthwhile.

Optometrist

James A. Lamar, O.D.

Dr. Anthony Lamar attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Optometry where he was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa honor society. He completed an additional year of training as a resident at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans where he received advanced instruction in the diagnosis and management of complex ocular disease. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages and specializes in contact lenses, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, dry eye, and many other forms of ocular diseases.

Dr. Lamar is the son of an Air Force family. He has grown up all over the country, but he is originally from Alabama where his family still resides. He graduated from Niceville High school in Florida, and he went on to obtain a Bachelors of Arts degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in medicine from Faulkner University before attending UAB. Dr. Lamar always knew he wanted to help people and discovered his passion for eye care when he worked as an ophthalmic technician in college.

Dr. Lamar has been married to Laura Bowie Lamar since 2011 and is overjoyed to be providing optometric care for the Monroe community.

Dr. Melissa Polk

Dr. Polk attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, where she graduated with honors. She fell in love with optometry and caring for patients while working as a technician at Family Eye Care. It is a wish become reality to return to the practice that started her passion for eye care. She enjoys seeing patients of every age with a focus on primary eye care, specialty contact lenses, and dry eye.

Dr. Polk grew up just down the road in Rayville, Louisiana. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University, where she was a cheerleader and met her husband, Nicholas Polk. They have been married since 2016 and are delighted to return to the Monroe area.

When Dr. Polk is not seeing patients, she enjoys traveling with her husband, snowboarding, scuba diving, and hiking with her Cavalier King Charles, Odie.
